Catapult Design Software

Not sure where I found this software, but it allows the student to design all sorts of catapults. A catapult is a project that many students learn to design in technology class. They learn forces, distances, lever arm, etc.

Here is an excellent example of a students ability to solve a "real world problem" using technology.

Inspiration

Inspiration is an organizational software students can use to make organized presentations. Inspiration alows the student to make a "organizational chart" of ideas and links. The student can add pictures to the presentation and hyperliks to web sites along the way.

Students have available to the an asssortment of boxes, shapes, pictures, clip art, and arrows to use. The software is very flexable.

The student, once finished with his / her chart can produce an outline in which they can follow to write a paper and keep the paper organized.

Inspiration files are saves as".isp" and cannot be imported into this blog for display or example.

Circuit Maker

Circuit Maker is a electronic schematic software that the students can use to make schematics of circuits, and also run simulations before he has to fabricate his curcits. By running a simulation, the student can make changes that correct circuit operation. The student can assure the circuit operates the way he wants before he fabricates a printed circuit board and finds problems.

I have used Circuit Maker to just make professional looking schematics to insert into lesson plans for my electronics class in technology.

Autodesk Inventor

Autodesk Inventor is a parametric modeling program students can use to develop ideas, as you would use in a Technology Drafting Class.

The difference with Inventor is that Inventor lets the student work on small solid objects and systematically remove material in space until he has the desired shape or object.

The software also allows the student, once he has completed his object, print a complete set of mechanical drawings.

I've been trying to insert a picture, but the formats don't match and it will not insert.

Microsoft Front Page

Microsoft Front Page is a WEB publication software. It typically runs on an IBM running 2000, ME, XP or Vista. Front page lets the user develop a web site and eliminates the need to write HTML code. Front page has a vast assortment of formats and backgrounds for the user to use. It also allows the user to format using imported images.

Front page also keeps track of all the images and links so when you upload all the information to your server, all images sounds, etc. are uploaded without any broken linke.

A studnet can be up and running with a web site in minutes using Front Page without the fustrations of having to keep track of everything and not having success.

Technology Lesson Plan Integration

Since none of my ed software would ever work, I'll keep track of other stuff. My presentation required me to hook my laptop up to the computer system in the room. I hooked the VGA cable to the "Input" on the desk. I also had to hit the "F8" key to sent the VGA to the console. Worked well!
I am working on my presentation for tonight and I have to have a "Basic Stamp" editor installed on the computer in the room. I have tryed a couple of times ti download and install, the computer will let me save the install program to the hard drive locally, but when I go to install, I am blocked. I am told "I have no authority".I have found this problem over and over in this lab as we tryed to install educational software for class evaluation"

TED510 Software Evaluation 08-28-07

I have tried to install and run 5 different pieces of software. None worked correctly. Some, when inserted, just made the CD drive whurr. Two gave the following message during the installation process, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".
The last one tried went through 47% of setup then stopped with a little window with a red cross in it.

Most of the problems, I would say is due to the St. Rose IT security in this lab.

The software titles I tried are:
The Incredible Machine"
Thinki'n Science
Kidphonics
Plants and Animals
Wherein the World is Carmen Sandiego
